The monitor above is the whole game, running in this page. No download, no sign-up, no account: a grid of tiles carries one shade, one tile does not, and you have twenty seconds to find it. Two sources, two ways to be wrong. Source A is the find-the-different-color grid: every tile is one shade but one, and the odd tile is off by 25 of 255 on each channel, in a direction nothing marks. Source B puts the target on the reference bars above and below the grid and asks you to match that exact value off them — slower work, which is why it grades a few levels lower.

Nothing about the shift changes as you climb. What changes is the board: 4 tiles, then 9, 16, 25 and 36 at levels 5, 10, 18 and 30, on a clock that starts the moment you get the first tile right and never resets. A wrong tap costs you nothing but a shake. Your score is levels cleared, and it plays the same on a phone as it does on a desktop screen.

Questions about the color test

Straight answers, starting with the one that matters most: no, this does not measure your eyesight.

Is Color Sense Test a color blindness test?
No. This is a game, not a diagnostic tool. It is not an Ishihara test, it has no clinical validity, and a high or a low score tells you nothing about the health of your eyes. Your screen, the light in the room and how tired you are move the number more than your vision does. If you want your color vision actually assessed, book an appointment with an optometrist.
What is a color perception test, and is this one?
A color perception test — colour perception test, in British English — usually means any task that asks how finely you can tell two similar shades apart. This page is the game version of that idea: entertainment, scored out of levels cleared. It cannot tell you whether you are a tetrachromat, and no browser test can, because a normal screen cannot show the extra colors that claim would depend on.
Does my screen change my score?
Yes, a lot. The same person scores differently on a cheap laptop panel and a good monitor, and brightness, viewing angle, color profile, ambient light and night-shift filters all shift what reaches your eye. That is the main reason this is a game rather than a measurement. Turn off any blue-light filter and play in even light if you want your runs to be comparable to each other.
How small does the color difference get?
It does not shrink. In Source A the odd tile is always off by 25 of 255 on each channel, or 24 on odd-numbered levels, and that stays constant from level 1 to the end of the run. What gets harder is everything around it: the grid grows from 4 tiles to 36, the base shade is picked at random each level, and the twenty-second clock never resets.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The board above is a normal web page, so it plays in any mobile browser with no install — tap the tile you think is different. Is it free to play?
Yes. The browser version is free with no sign-up and no account, and the Color Sense Test apps on Google Play and the App Store are free downloads supported by ads. Nothing on this page asks you for an email address or a payment method.
What is the vectorscope on the monitor showing?
It plots the round's colors the way a broadcast vectorscope does: each shade is converted to luma and the two color-difference axes, then drawn as a dot inside a graticule with the six 75% primary boxes for reference. In Source A both shades are plotted, and the point is how close they land — the whole difficulty of the game, drawn as a picture instead of a number.
What is the difference between Source A and Source B?
Source A is Different mode: the grid is one shade except for a single tile, and you find the odd one out. Source B is Bar mode: the reference bars above and below the grid carry a target color, exactly one tile on the grid matches it, and the rest are unrelated. Matching an exact value off a bar is slower work, so Source B grades a few levels lower for the same verdict.
